Hawaii Keisho

“Keisho” (継承) means to inherit, carry forward, and pass on.
At Hawaii Keisho, we believe Japanese language, culture, and heritage continue to grow through meaningful experiences, relationships, and community connections.
We create opportunities for learners of all ages to learn, connect, and cultivate lasting connections with Japan and its culture—connections, values, and experiences they will carry into the future.

We foster inclusive communities of learning where learners deepen their understanding of Japanese language and culture, develop a lasting sense of identity, belonging, and community, and discover the joy of lifelong learning..

Our Mission

A Bridge Across Generations

Hawaii Keisho creates welcoming, community-based learning opportunities where learners and families can experience Japanese language, culture, and heritage together. Through authentic experiences and meaningful relationships, we help learners build lasting connections with Japan, one another, and the Hawaiʻi community.

Our programs encourage curiosity, cultural understanding, and lifelong connections to Japan that each learner can carry forward in their own way.

Why Hawaii Keisho

Welcoming for Everyone

Children, teens, adults, families, and learners of all backgrounds are welcome. Whether reconnecting with Japanese heritage or exploring Japanese language and culture for the first time, everyone has a place to learn, connect, and belong.

Rooted in Language, Culture, and Heritage

Our programs celebrate the richness of Japanese language, culture, and heritage while fostering appreciation, respect, and a deeper understanding of the values they carry.

Community-Centered

Learning extends beyond the classroom. Through shared experiences and relationships, learners and families build friendships, strengthen their sense of identity and belonging, and become part of a supportive community.

Learning for Life

We inspire curiosity, cultural understanding, and lasting connections that continue well beyond our programs.
